  • And then she died...

    Time to start posting a lot of pictures on Xanga again. I'm backlogged all the way to March of this year, since my trip to Shanghai.

    For relevant videos that inspired me to do this, search keywords on YouTube like: t40 t42 gpu reflow ibm

    It was a last ditch effort to save my laptop. Disassembled to the components the first time, spent 3+ hours with DeJu to attempt to reflow with a heat gun. Reassembled. Same problem, but it still worked.

    Second attempt: Reflow with tea candle. Machine is now effectively dead dead.

  • new home

    I have completely moved out of Berkeley and am living in San Jose now.

    Goodbye, Berkeley. The last 7 years were good.

    So far, I have one roommate: Henry Sim. Looking for a few more...

  • Go to class!

    Many students all around the country are in the last weeks and days of classes.

    This morning, my roommate asked me, "Should I go to class (It's the last one)?"

    My response:

    YES, YOU SHOULD GO TO CLASS

    If anything, even if you mostly did webcast, even if you're getting a bad grade in the class, if the professor was any good at all, you should go to class on the last day of class just so you can clap for them. The same applies for sections and your GSI (Graduate Student Instructors). Really good professors will get a standing ovation.

    On a separate but related note, it's rare that students will clap at the end of lectures in the middle of the semester, but only for really good professors who gave an outstanding lecture.

    Show some respect.

  • Fences

    Hello everyone! I had come across this before, and I wanted to implement it, so I started searching around for a product, and eventually came upon Stardock Fences. It's really cool, and definitely a big help for productivity, so try it out!

    They have it for Windows XP and Vista. No more cluttered, unorganized icons!

  • Good Friday

    On this day, my Savior went to the cross.

    Isaiah 53 (NASB)

    Who has believed our message?
    And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
    For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,
    And like a root out of parched ground;
    He has no stately form or majesty
    That we should look upon Him,
    Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.
    He was despised and forsaken of men,
    A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
    And like one from whom men hide their face
    He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
    Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
    And our sorrows He carried;
    Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
    Smitten of God, and afflicted.
    But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
    He was crushed for our iniquities;
    The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
    And by His scourging we are healed.
    All of us like sheep have gone astray,
    Each of us has turned to his own way;
    But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
    To fall on Him.
    He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
    Yet He did not open His mouth;
    Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
    And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,
    So He did not open His mouth.
    By oppression and judgment He was taken away;
    And as for His generation, who considered
    That He was cut off out of the land of the living
    For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?
    His grave was assigned with wicked men,
    Yet He was with a rich man in His death,
    Because He had done no violence,
    Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.
    But the LORD was pleased
    To crush Him, putting Him to grief;
    If He would render Himself as a guilt offering,
    He will see His offspring,
    He will prolong His days,
    And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.
    As a result of the anguish of His soul,
    He will see it and be satisfied;
    By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many,
    As He will bear their iniquities.
    Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great,
    And He will divide the booty with the strong;
    Because He poured out Himself to death,
    And was numbered with the transgressors;
    Yet He Himself bore the sin of many,
    And interceded for the transgressors.

  • this is powerful

    ... says Andrew (from his Plaxo/Twitter update). I agree =), so this deserves it's own Xanga post

    It's a story told with pictures, that will take about 15 minutes to read through

  • xanga accounts as subdomain names!

    I come back from traveling in China and notice a pleasant surprise--a nice update to Xanga!

    The address of your Xanga is no longer what it was formerly - http://www.xanga.com/<USERNAME> but is now a subdomain of Xanga: http://<USERNAME>.xanga.com

    The old URLs still work.

    Woohoo, thanks, Xanga! This helps boost my Google page rank for "jontsai," no doubt.

  • proverbs 6:1-11

    Proverbs 6:1-11 NASB
    (1)  My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, Have given a pledge for a stranger,
    (2)  If you have been snared with the words of your mouth, Have been caught with the words of your mouth,
    (3)  Do this then, my son, and deliver yourself; Since you have come into the hand of your neighbor, Go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbor.
    (4)  Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids;
    (5)  Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter's hand And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
    (6)  Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise,
    (7)  Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler,
    (8)  Prepares her food in the summer And gathers her provision in the harvest.
    (9)  How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?
    (10)  "A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest"--
    (11)  Your poverty will come in like a vagabond And your need like an armed man.
